About me
Leadership in the public sector is demanding work. You're juggling competing priorities, managing up, down and sideways, and somewhere in the middle of all of that, trying to figure out the "right way" to do leadership.
My name is Vanessa Lunney and I know this world well. I spent over a decade as a leader in the Queensland public sector, and for a long time I considered myself an accidental leader. I didn’t set out to lead – but other people saw potential in me before I saw it in myself.
That experience shaped how I think about leadership. It’s not about having all the answers or being the most senior person in the room. It’s a daily practice. It’s how you show up in every interaction, and the impact you have on the people around you – whether you realise it or not.
That’s what led me to start The Leadership Garden. Not because I had it all figured out, but because I saw how much difference it makes when leaders get the right support at the right time.
